About this module

Life guarantees adversity: exam failures, job losses, illness, bereavement, natural disasters. Resilience is the capacity to adapt in the face of these challenges. In this module you will discover that resilience is not a personality trait some people are born with, not the same as staying silent or forcing a smile, and not something we achieve alone. You will explore what resilience looks like in real Indian lives and communities, learn seven practical ways to build it, and meet the idea of antifragility: growing stronger through difficulty, not just recovering from it.

What you will learn

  • Explain what resilience is and why it is a learnable skill rather than a fixed trait
  • Distinguish resilience from avoidance, suppression and forced positivity
  • Describe the role of social connection and collective resilience in Indian communities
  • Apply practical strategies, including cognitive reframing and social support, to build resilience
  • Explain antifragility and post-traumatic growth, and how resilience protects mental health
